Seaton Tramway has received a grant of £217,500 from the government's £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund to help the organisation recover and reopen after the pandemic.

Nearly £400million has been awarded to thousands of cultural organisations across the country, including Seaton Tramway, in the latest round of support from the Culture Recovery Fund, the Culture Secretary announced today.

Seaton Community Hospital has been identified as a potential site for 14 new homes

Most of East Devon's future housing growth will have to be built on sites outside of existing town centres, councillors have been told, although there is potential for 55 new homes in Seaton.

With the council currently producing a new Local Plan, an Urban Capacity Study was commissioned to assess the potential for development within existing town centres.

The number of coronavirus cases confirmed across Devon and Cornwall fell by a third last week to the lowest level seen since mid-September.

A total of 292 new cases were confirmed across the two counties in the last week – the first week with less than 300 since the week ending September 18 – with the total since the start of the pandemic now standing at 47,410.

Elections for Devon County Council and the Devon & Cornwall Police & Crime Commissioner will be held on May 2 2021.

Registered electors will be able to vote in person at a polling station, by postal vote or by proxy at the elections on Thursday, 6 May, although there will be some changes to protect voters from coronavirus.

The outside area at The Eyre Court Hotel in Seaton

With just four days to go until further easing of lockdown restrictions, Seaton pubs and restaurants are preparing to welcome customers back to outdoor areas.

Announcing its plans for outside reopening on Monday, April 12, The Eyre Court Hotel in Queen Street, Seaton, said it was "delighted" to be opening its garden space from 10.30am to 11pm Monday - Saturday, and 11.30am to 10.30pm on Sundays.

Every adult in Devon is now being encouraged to take a rapid, lateral flow test for coronavirus twice a week, and now they can do so in a variety of ways, including through a mobile testing unit in Axminster.

As well as the testing unit in the West Street car park, testing will also be available at workplaces, pharmacies or via home delivery.

At the March meeting of Axmouth Parish Council, the chairman, Cllr Ken Steven, reported that two additional picnic benches (built by Mr P Ives) have been treated and placed on the Coronation Green to replace the rotten ones.

Cllr Steven also advised that a donation had been received for £100 from Mr B. Clark, from the village, towards the cost of the benches.
