At the March meeting of Axmouth Parish Council, the chairman, Cllr Ken Steven, reported that two additional picnic benches (built by Mr P Ives) have been treated and placed on the Coronation Green to replace the rotten ones.
Cllr Steven also advised that a donation had been received for £100 from Mr B. Clark, from the village, towards the cost of the benches.
Councillors were told that the last remaining bench in disrepair would be removed, leaving four benches on the green.
Cllr Steven also advised that some repairs would be carried out on the platform shortly including non-slip matting being put in position.
Cllr Nigel Daniel reported that there is some damp in the information board under the perspex, which should be replaced, and it was agreed this work would be carried out.
Cllr Morag Steven advised that the metal birds along the fence were getting rusty and councillors agreed to paint them.
Vehicle activated signs
In considering highway matters, members were updated on the vehicle activated signs (VAS) and 20 mph trial to slow traffic through the village.
The chairman, Cllr Ken Steven, advised that the wooden posts on Church Street had been fixed and the contractors had done an excellent job.
Councillors agreed that the suggested temporary VAS sign at The Ship Inn would not be done but to concentrate on the permanent sign outside Marandellas. The clerk, Becki Davey, would confirm this with Devon Country Council Highways.
County councillor Ian Hall advised that there was no current update on the 20mph trial but would provide one when more details were available.
