Axe Cliff golfers enjoy fun event

Axe Cliff Golf club Ladies recently enjoyed a fun game with the Seniors pairing up for a 15-hole stableford match on a very windy and cold day. Despite the weather there were some very good scores with five pairs over 30 points.

Terry Atkins was lucky enough to have Jo Hopgood as his lady partner and they both played their socks off with an excellent score of 37 points, equivalent to being seven shots below the combined par to win the day.

Axe Cliff Golf Club Ladies enjoyed competing in their fourth round of their Winter League competition last Wednesday with a good turnout.

To have a good score you needed to be called Jo with first place going to Jo Donmall with 31 points over the 15-hole Stableford, leaving Jo Hopgood to take second spot with 29 points. There is now only one round left to complete before the overall winner is declared. Will she be a Jo?

I think so many Axe Cliff golfers wanted to walk off their Christmas puddings that they turned out in their droves on New Year's Eve. The car park was jammed full probably because Axe Cliff was most likely to be the only local course open after Thursday's downpour.

Last Monday Axe Cliff Golf Club Ladies held their presentation of trophies at the clubhouse, organised by secretary Caroline Bond and captain Anne Jarvis.

This was followed by their Christmas Lunch being a very nice carvery cooked by Clare and her Christmas helpers. They also provided festive glasses , crackers and a nicely laid-out table. Sandra Walker provided the Wine in lieu of her hole-in-one earlier in the year when playing with husband Chris.

The week started well at Axe Cliff Golf Club with the Seniors winning the annual Tic Trophy from the Ladies on Monday - some recompense for losing

order achieved on each hole with a blob counting as 0. For example if a team scored 4 x 3 x 0 then they had 0 total on that hole. If you only had two players in your team, then the third player was assumed had one point on each hole. This is going to take some checking so we will have to wait until next week for the result.
