A small group of Ladies at Axe Cliff Golf Club played in a fun Stableford last Wednesday at home with Karin Cox taking the honours with a fine 37 points.

Paula Heasman, hoping desparately for her old Red CV2 called Poppy to pass her MOT, came second with 30 points but only on countback from Jo Hopgood.

A team of five also went to East Devon to compete in the National Annodata matchplay event. It was a very enjoyable afternoon, despite losing 4-1, but many of the matches went to the wire. Heroine of the day was captain Anne Jarvis, our only winner.

A very good turnout by the Seniors last Friday in sunny weather for most of the day which helped bring in some good scoring on our much improved greens.

It is good to see Brian Thompson return to his winning ways again with one birdie and eight pars, thanks to his putting making him the winner of Division One with a net 69. He was pushed all the way by Kyle Phillpots (second) and Nigel Tarr (third),also on 69 but losing out to Brian on countback.

Brian has now been cut to 10, but I predict he will be in single figures before the end of the year.

John Purdy won Division Two with a 71, just edging Nick Jones into second spot on 72 and Pete Casey third with 75.

Roger Hill was over the moon with his two on the short par 3 11th hole especially as it was the only two of the day.

After the competition, Seniors' captain John Hanna was pleased to present a cash gift to Andy Jeffrey for his wonderful work for the club, these past three years.

Andy has been bar steward, bar manager and green keeper, just to name a few roles, and was very popular and appreciated by all of us for his care and

dedication to his duties. Its good to know that he is staying in the area and should soon start his new role in hospitality in the town. He is also able to continue his captaincy of the Men's Section so we should see him more often playing on the course. John wished him well for the future on behalf of the Seniors.

Once again I am delighted to say that that we will be holding free open days for anyone interested in playing golf or wanting to improve on the weekend of July 24 and 25.

Anyone is welcome to book their spots which will include expert training lessons, some golf play with free drinks and food. Just phone the club on 01297 21754.
