What a week for Axe Cliff Golf small band of ladies at the club. Firstly, one of the youngest and newest members Ang Higgins and Amy Rodriquez won the annual Foursomes Cup last Wednesday. Then, on Friday, six of them went off to Okehampton to play in their Open and not only brought home the trophy with an excellent card from Pauline Willis, Paula Heasman and young Amy Rodriquez again but the other three - Sandra Walker, Karin Cox and Jo Hopgood - came second.Sandra also won nearest the pin on the 12th hole to add to the day's winnings. What a brilliant day for them doing the club proud .

The Seniors started their inter-club matches last Tuesday with a highly competitive and very sociable game. at home against Bridport. The result was a well deserved 3-3 draw with most games going to the wire.

Their team was very complimentary of the state of the course and everyone enjoyed the two-course dinner in the clubhouse afterwards ,especially the, death by chocolate, desert with custard.

The return away match will be in October. Richard Gibbons, the club's new vice-captain, won nearest the pin with a fine shot on the short 11th. Nigel Pritchard, Alan Morgan and Gerry Binmore are all very good players but must have surpassed themselves, atFriday's Texas Scramble, winning with an unbelievable gross 66 nett 55 some 15 below par - fantastic.

Richard also found the energy to play on Sunday, this time with the Men's Section and helped his team of himself, Mike Chadwick and Derek Hales win the Seve Trophy with 77 pts pushed all the way by B. Waller, J. Matthews and J. Gaitcoming second with 75 leaving Ben Isaac, Mike Cottam ad Chris Glover claiming third spot on the podium with 73.
