April usually brings forth showers but in our case it brings forth Roll Ups. The first one was Mashers midweek and lo and behold Masher aka Paul Curtin won with 37 points. Where he got that nickname from, I dont know. Chris Glover was well back on 31 but took second spot leaving Anthony Critchfield , on 27 pts, in third place.
On Good Friday we had the traditional on a beautiful morning with lots of players in short sleeve shirts. Some 20 turned up and all paid their £2 to put in the prize pot. It was well fought for and the podium was split on countback. In the money was Kevin Miller on on 40 points, just beating Mike Chadwick also on 40. My goodself somehow managed third with 36, just ahead of John Purdy. I forgot to take some food and drink with me as playing with Phil Christmas and Norman Bowles can take a few very pleasant hours. I did, however, share a small packet of Love Hearts with them. On Phil's sweet he had "Awesome", on mine was "You are mine ". I asked old Norman (83) what was on his . Without hesitation he said "1985" ! I'm surprised he can remember that far back.
The Seniors have chosen a strong team for their first round game against Exeter Golf & Country Club . This is our County FA Cup competition played on a knock-out basis over home and away matches. Good luck lads.
Our Ladies have started their annual competitions now and have completed their Centenary Niblick played as a Stableford. The weather was a winner as was Karin Cox , a clear winner on 32 points. Jo Hopgood took second with 25 points from captain Stella Thompson, third on 23 points. Margaret Kenchington, playing in pink, was fourth with 23 points.
The Men's Section held their April Medal with a strong field and managed some good scores in challenging conditions. Lewis Cottam won Division 1 with a fine 72 from Ian Burraston second on 75 and Richard Gibbons, showing he can take on the youngsters claiming third spot on 76. Division Two was closely fought with the first 3 separated by only two shots. Young Craig Trivett was first with a par 70 from Dean Hodder and Alex Taylor with 71 and 72 respectively.
Thanks must go to Alex and his young team for the first class condition of the greens and whole Course. I thinks itslooking the best its been in my time and I've been a member over 20 years."
