LYME Regis 1st team put in an impressive performance when they met Bridport at St Mary's in a pre-season friendly.

It was a tight affair for the first 15 minutes with the Bees working hard to contain a dangerous Lyme side.

As the game progressed the Seasiders began to dominate proceedings playing some very tidy football out from the back.

Keeper Chris Higgs, who as a youngster was on Exeter City's and Dorchester's books, looks like being Lyme's number one glove man this season, was forced off on 25 minutes with a tight half.

With no substitute keeper Dan Rendall went between the sticks and pulled off a great save from a rare Bridport counter attack.

Freddie Parsons looked particularly dangerous and Bridport had their keeper to thank for keeping it at 0-0 at half-time.

After the break it didn't take long for Lyme to break the deadlock as Tyler Wellman, the former Sidmouth and Axminster player who has committed to playing for his home town this season, rose to force home a deflected cross in the 50th minute.

Lyme looked like they were running away with it with a cross shot in the 60th minute to make it 2-0.

Newly arrived keeper Will Meech spilled a shot and then tripped the striker as he chased the rebound with Bridport putting away the resulting penalty.

But for the home team it was only a glimmer of hope as Sam Pollard-Jones smashed home Lyme's third minutes later to complete the 3-1 scoreline.

Lyme were wasteful in front of goal but joint managers Mark Bailey and Julien Simier will be very happy with the amount of chances created and speed of football played.

Lyme Regis Rovers got their pre-season up and running with a 2-0 victory over Waytown with goals from Shane Featherstone and Josh Daines.
