Last Friday, Armistice Day, the Axe Cliff Golf Club Seniors payed their respects to the fallen by observing the two-minute silence at the 11th Hour. Dan Hellier,in the clubhouse, set off the Hooter at 11am so everyone on the course could stand to attention. It was a great sight on the course.

Over 30 Seniors were playing their second round of their Winter League Cup. It was great having dry weather but there was still had a minor gale wind to contend with. Points scored varied from 12 to 35 but no-one managed to play to his handicap which would give 36 points. However, 12 managed to get 30 and above. The winner, on countback, was Mike Wickins with 35 points keeping Tony Snell in second place and Tony Strong took third spot with 34. Nigel Pritchard scored the only two of the round on the short 11. Tony Snell, Leighton Morgan and Colin Jones won our annual Bowmaker Waltz competition with a magnificent team score of 82 points. It is properly named as one score counts on the first hole, then the best two on the next, leaving all three to count on the third hence 1-2-3 together. This is repeated another five times until all 18 finished. If the team plays to par they would score 72 ( 2+ 4 + 6 x 6) so their score was equivalent of 10 below par which takes some doing. The favourites, Messrs Hopgood, Wellington and Bruce, and heaviest team of some 53 stones had to be satisfied with 70 despite scoring 42 on their first nine holes but got out of breath on the last nine.

Last Wednesday, in reasonable conditions, the Ladies played their last round of the County Prize Stableford competition with a clear winner in Stella Thompson on 30 points. Sandra Walker took second spot, on countback from Paula Heasman, both on 24 points. Stella is the overall winner over four best scores. amassing 131 points, and Paula was second with 127. They will now both go forward to represent the club at the County Finals in 2023.
