Perry St Spring Series 2021

Uplyme 1sts 4, Waytown 1

WITH no recognised goalkeeper available and key players missing, this game could have been a big task, but Uplyme continued their good form with an excellent 4 – 1 win over a very good Waytown side.

Waytown always have a good quality midfield, however the Uplyme trio of Wes Holmes, Fin Mclean and Harry Robson quickly stamped their passing style and tempo onto the game.

It was Mclean who opened the scoring with a thunderous drive after some brilliant skill from Oscar Sladen inside the box, sending the Waytown defender for an ice cream with a dream step over!

Sladen himself scored two, including a fantastic lob over the advancing keeper with the outside of his foot.

The firm ground didn't help the players with tight control, but Uplyme still passed the ball confidently and it did not diminish the quality of movement and communication.

Mclean should have had another goal after a stunning move from the back, involving almost every playee, but his close-range shot struck the post, quickly followed by his knee!

Louis Bamford finished off a flowing move with the final goal of the game and sealed another fine team performance that won high praise from the referee at the final whistle.

Manager Steve Gillan was full of praise for the style of play his team produce and their commitment to playing flowing football every week. Oscar Sladen was picked out as man-of -the-match for his goals and skilful contributions
