Uplyme 1sts travelled to Exeter to face St Thomas Social FC, the last unbeaten team in Devon and Exeter Division Six.
Other teams had already mentioned what a physical, unpleasant challenge they would face, but the young side set out trying to play their usual brand of football on a very tricky pitch.
Uplyme took the lead through a Wes Holmes penalty, which the home team refuted to the point where players were sinbinned and spectators were loudly abusing the ref.
St Thomas scored two goals to take the lead into the second half, but Uplyme stuck to their principles and equalised through a brilliant Wes Holmes' volley, the skipper watching the high ball before smashing it into the bottom corner.
Sadly, the Swallows didn't take their chances and St Thomas broke upfield and scored a good goal to take all three points.
The management team both agreed in their post-match assessment: "The home team were all older players, all played a physical game made to intimidate and force teams into errors or confrontation.
"They had three excellent players who kept us very busy and had clearly played higher standards when a little younger but can still do a good job at this level. We worked hard and deserved a point, but luck wasn't with us. Credit to our young lads for standing up to some sad intimidation from the sidelines."
