Uplyme finish pre-season friendly on a high

UPLYME completed their pre-season with a resounding 8 – 1 win over Colyton 2nds.

Uplyme were relaxed from the start and broke the deadlock after 20 minutes through Dan Huggins after a lovely James Souter Phillips' flick.

Souter Phillips grabbed the second after pouncing on a keeper error and driving into the bottom corner. He went on to complete a much-deserved hat-trick which crowned a man-of-the-match performance.

The pick of the eight goals was Uplyme's third goal, started and finished by Alex Jones. He plucked the ball from the sky and sprayed a 40-yard pass to Dan Huggins, who centred for Jones to meet it on the outside of the foot volley into the top corner.

James Jobson and James Hansford cashed in on some great football with goals, along with a second for Huggins.

The Uplyme manager Steve Gillan admired the level of football from his players but was quick to point out that it meant nothing "if we don't take it into the first games of the season".

There is no doubt, however, judging by their pre-season form, that Uplyme will be one of the main contenders for Perry Street Division Two honours.

Uplyme start their campaign on Saturday at home to Merriott Rovers.
