AFTER the disappointment of being knocked out of the FA Vase, Axminster Town bounced back on Wednesday night by smashing 15 goals past South West Peninsular Premier East basement boys Stoke Gabriel.

The Tigers were beaten 2-0 at Tiger Way last Saturday by Western League side Clevedon Town.

Manager Josh Stunnell watched Clevedon the week before and he was confident his young side could spring a surprise if they could find their scoring boots.

But whilst they competed well, it was the same old story in front of goal, a tale of missed chances.

It was a different story at Tiger Way on Wednesday evening as Stoke Gabriel conceded another 15 goals, making them - according to the BBC - the team in England which has had the worst start to the season having shipped 137 goals.

Axminster were without their new signing, the prolific Tony Pinder, for the FAVase game due to injury but he returned for the Stoke Gabriel match.

Although Axminster have won just one of their eight league games so far, they were expected to pick up three crucial league points at Stoke Gabriel to lift them off the bottom of the table.

The goals came from: Keiran Daniels 3, Tony Pinder 1, Marky Jones 1, Reece Mccabe 3, Marcus Fason 4, Josh Lukins 1, Tom Tricker 1, Charlie Skilts 1. Man-of-the-match was Tom Tricker.

Stunnell, however, was full of praise and admiration for Stoke Gabriel saying they never stopped running despite the goal-fest.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Axminster have another tough fixture, away to third placed Torridgeside AFC who have won all seven of their league games.

Axminster Reserves, riding high in Devon & Exeter League Division Two East, are at home to Axmouth United (kick-off 3pm).
