A 2-2 draw for Uplyme 1sts at home to East Budleigh 2nds seemed a fair result on Saturday, with both sides having excellent attacking options.
Both the Budleigh and Uplyme keeper, 16-year-old Ollie Gunstone, pulled off a handful of excellent saves. A Connor Tate penalty and excellent team goal finished by Marcus Symonds took a point for the home team.
"But it could have gone either way," said manager Steve Gillan, "They hit the bar a few times and we hit the bar in the last seconds and their keeper stopped a point-blank shot from the rebound. But, very satisfied with a point against a strong side with a few of their first team players stengthening them.
Our back line was fantastic and our midfield kept Budleigh very busy through the middle. We had a couple of 1st teamers missing, but our depth is good and young Matt Rowe did really well at centre back. When Wes Holmes - at 24 - is the oldest on the starting 11, then you know the future looks solid if they are all keen for next season."
Uplyme's last game of the season is one Saturday at home to Alphington 2nds, who sit in fourth place in the Devon and Exeter League Division Four (kick-off 3pm).
