SEATON Town have pulled their 2nd X1 from the Devon and Exeter League Division Seven.

Like many other local clubs, Seaton have found it difficult to field two teams this season.

A statement posted on the Devon and Exeter website earlier today (Tuesday) said: " Seaton Town have informed the League they are withdrawing their Reserve team. The Seasiders have been struggling to get enough players together each week to get through the season and have finally taken a decision to avoid more fines.

"The Division Seven table will be adjusted as soon as possible but the League is sorry to lose yet another team.

"Hopefully they will come again, but it is sorry news to learn that a club with such good facilities and of such long history cannot get two teams out every week."

Seaton Reserves were languishing at the bottom of Division Seven with just eight points from 15 games.

The club, which also runs a ladies' team, dropped out of the Premier Division this season due to a lack of players and are playing in Division Three where they sit in a comfortable sixth place.

Other local clubs have been forced to fold teams following the COVID. Axminster Town dropped their 3rd eleven and Reserves before the epidemic but are planning to reform their 2nd X1 next season.

Lyme Regis dropped their 3rd X1, Lyme Rovers, and experienced availability problems at the beginning of this season, although they seem to be back on an even keel now.

In the Perry Street League the third division is now down to just six sides, with Charmouth Reserves being one of those to pull out.

Seaton Town were once one of East Devon's most successful clubs with excellent playing and social facilities.
