University of Exeter 7th 0, Milllwey Rise 1st X1 3
For 15 minutes, with Millwey Rise, playing into a stiff breeze, the game stuttered and started with little menace to either keeper.
The first real threat from Rise came when Ty Allan latched onto an Owen Enticott through ball but his resulting shot flew over the bar.
Nathan Womersley put Millwey ahead in the 35th minute when he finished off a delightful move involving Dave Bridges and Joe Osborne. University, with the wind behind them, continued making inroads and creating chances but again it was Rise who added to their tally when Womersley's cross-cum-shot flew into the net for a two-goal lead.
In the 44th minute keeper Flynn Smith ensured Millwey went into the break with their lead intact when he pushed a goal bound shot around the post for a corner which was then cleared.
With the second period only two minutes old Millwey' had a real let-off when, with the goal at his mercy, a University forward somehow managed to hit the post and as the ball bounced back into play where another striker's shot was smothered by Smith and cleared.
This was quickly followed by Ben Webb's last ditch, vital tackle which prevented the home side going ahead. Womersley nearly completed his hat-trick when his fiercely struck shot rattled the crossbar and Osborne, following up, was on hand to poke the ball home for Millwey's third goal.
Within minutes Osborne succumbed to a tackle and was replaced by veteran Wayne Jenkins. Smith was kept busy in the Rise goal but dealt confidently with the threats.
The non-stop Zak Meaker in midfield then set up Womersley but his rasping strike was turned around the post for a corner. Callum Farquhar came on to replace Enticott and Ash Doble replaced the irrepressible Bridges.
Womersley, who was a constant thorn in the University's defence, had one final effort pushed round the post for a corner before being replaced by manager Shane Featherstone. Rise kept pressing with the wind in their backs but it was again left to keeper Smith to keep the slate clean when, in the final minutes, he again produced a great save to turn a goal bound shot around the post for a corner.
This was Millwey's fourth win on the trot and like the others, well earnt. Manager Shane Featherstone was full of praise for the whole team and it was difficult to disagree with him but Nathan Womersley, Zak Meaker and young Flynn Smith certainly warranted individual recognition.
Amory Green Rovers 1st. X1 are the visitors to Cloakham Lawns next week (kick-off 3pm).
