Millwey Rise 2ndX1 2, Starcross Dons 2ndX 1 0

Millwey played host to Starcross Dons the team, which a fortnight ago, they beat 1-4.

The match began in a rather scrappy fashion but from the kick-off Rise began notching up the chances. At least five went begging with a combination of hitting the woodwork twice, goal line clearances and good goalkeeping by the visitors keeper. The Dons keeper had in fact forgotten his own gloves and borrowed a pair from Millwey so perhaps their previous successes rubbed off on him much to Millwey's frustration. Despite Millwey's dominance the visitors did manage one shot on goal which Kieran Bearpark and his legs did well to save so the score remained goalless at the break.

The second period started much the same as the first but as the game wore on Millwey got closer and closer until a cleared corner fell perfectly for Mat Hunt to smash the ball home. Soon after Millwey went two up when they were awarded a penalty which striker Jack Bennet coolly dispatched past the keeper. The Dons had a couple of glimpses at goal but the Millwey defence shut them out to keep another clean sheet on the way to a well earnt win. The result consolidated their fourth place position in Devon and Exeter Division Eight and leaves them in the hunt for a top three finish.

The Management team were extremely happy with this performance and Terry Male gave man-of-the-match to Alex Osborne who was solid at centre back and when switching to left back made some great interceptions.

Next weekend Rise seconds travel to Tiverton to play Amory Green Rovers (kick-off 3pm).
