LYME Regis Reserves, following their 7-1 victory over Axmouth United in Division Three of the Devon and Exeter League, faced a tougher task away to Devon Yeoman on Saturday.
They came up against a strong side who had won there first two games at an intimidating location, especially for young debutants -Matt Bradley, Zak Harrison and Tom Kilcoyne – where a lot of team will struggle to get points.
The Seasiders started slowly, but once they found some confidence they enjoyed a good spell in the first half, keeping Yeoman pinned in their own half and limiting their ability to create something on the counter.
Early in the second half Fred Thompson, who had worked incredibly hard in his first competitive game this year, flicked the ball on from a throw-in for Jon Davies to head into an empty net, a well deserved goal.
Despite going 1-0 up, Lyme's energy levels dropped and Yeoman dominated the rest of the game with the Seasiders trying to create something on the break.
With only about ten minutes to go Yeoman got a deserved goal when the ball fell lose in the box.
Manager Matt Preece was pleased that his side battled so hard, with a special mention going to Jake Sargent and Wallace Blackmore who were both superb defensively and great on the ball.
