Record day at Kilmington

It was a day for day breaking records for Kilmington 2nd XI on Saturday.

Batting first against Honiton 2nd XI, they equalled the highest score in the club's history, 462-3. Central to this was the 35 fours and 20 sixes that made up Alex Rockett's 299, the highest ever score in the Devon League and for the club.

Alex also registered the highest ever partnership in the club's history, 274, with Tom Olive (87). Ashley Cook (26) helped take the score to that record total, but Alex innings was extraordinary to witness.

Alex is the son of the late Tony Rockett, one of East Devon's most respected and feared bowlers and a stalwart of KIlmington Cricket Club.

Credit to Honiton whose young bowlers kept working hard when they could have fallen apart, but pick of the bowlers was experienced Richard Hill (2-47), highly respectable in the context.

Honiton started their response with a 30 runs starter between the very impressive Matthew Maltravers (30) and Riley Burgess (14), and reached 181 all out with further useful contributions from Andy Brinsford (46), skipper Jon Hext (39) and Will Smith (16). Mike Summers (3-45) led the wicket takers, with braces in support from Ben Fuzzard and Harry Johnston.

Kilmington 2nd XI 462-3 (40 overs) Alex Rockett 299, Tom Olive 87, Richard Hill 2-47 Honiton 2nd XI 181 all out (38.1 overs) Andy Brinsford 46, Jon Hext 39, Matthew Maltravers 30, Mike Summers 3-45, Ben Fuzzard 2-20, Harry Johnston 2-34.
