A DIVISION 

 It was a bad day at the office with the bat leading to a very disappointing result for Kilmington 1st X1 against a team who usually beat them, but in a close contest. That was not the case on Saturday, writes Martin Huscroft.

Thorverton won the toss and batted, reaching what appeared to be a par score of 232-7 from their 50 overs. This was based on fifties from Alistair Chillcott (57), Tom Diamond (63) and overseas player Jason van der Meulen (67). 

 Tidy bowling by Ollie Reed (1-40), Josh Short (0-28), Joel Seward (1-30) and Rob Crabb (0-24) kept Kilmington in the game but Oscar Oborn-Corby (3-54) had the best reward. Atthe break Kilmington were in in the game.

Kilmington's best moments were during a second wicket partnership of 42 between Tom Gooding (26), batting with a thumb he dislocated in the field, and Matt Rockett (25). After that only Josh Short (19) and Matt Reed (23) really troubled the scorers against Jason van der Meulen (3-11), Jake Choules (3-22) and Alex Jopling (3-29).

Kilmington certainly need to get up for next week's local derby against Seaton, in what has become a very important game.

Seaton 1st X1 are still looking for their first victory of the season, having lost by seven wickets at home to Budleigh Salterton who are top of the table in the A Division.

  The visitors won the toss and put Seaton into bat. Despite a plucky 44 from Max Johnson and a useful 36 from Tim Doulton, Seaton were all out for 150 in 44.5 overs.

 Budleigh Salterton, unbeaten this season, coasted to a winning total of 151, losing just three wickets along the way in 30 overs.
