Kilmington back in third place after comfortable win over Tavistock

Kilmington returned to the top three in the Devon Cricket League A Division with a comfortable six-wicket win at home to Tavistock 1st X1.

Kilmington won the toss and put the visitors into bat. They were given a brilliant start with opener Steve Luffman scoring an impressive 107, an innings which included 14 fours and two sixes. Few of his fellow batsmen, however, got to grips with the Kilmington attack and they were 200 with one wicket left after the 50 overs.

Best bowling figures for Kilmington came from Robert Crabb (3 for 27 off ten overs) with Joel Seward picking up two wickets.

In reply, Kilmington's innings was dominated by No 3 Sam Cuconits, who steered the villagers to a winning score of 204-4 with an undefeated 92. Josh Cann and Joel Seward kept the score ticking over, both scoring 38.

This victory sees Kilmington in third place in the table with 107 points behind second placed Torquay (120 points) and leaders Exeter (129 points) 

Kilmington 1st X1 19 points; Tavistock 1st X16 points.

B DIVISION

Seaton 1st X1 chalked up their fourth win of the season with a six-wicket victory away to Cullompton 1st X1.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, posting 201 all out in 42 overs. Only two batsmen really got to grips with the Seaton attack – Vivek Gautam and Brendon Parr, who both scored 51.

The Seaton wickets were shared by Joseph Berry (3-26), Ben Morgan (2 for 49) and Adam Bilston (2 for 19).

Opener Damian Baxter gave Seaton a good start in their reply, scoring 40, but it was left to Adam Bilston (65) and Max Johnson (60) who put them on course for a victory total of 202-4.

Cullompton 1st X1 7 points; Seaton 1st X1 20 points.

C DIVISION EAST

Uplyme and Lyme Regis have narrowed the gap at the top of C Division East with a convincing five-wicket victory away to Alphington and Countess Wear 1st X1.

Uplyme are now breathing down the neck of the top two clubs – Teignmouth and Sheldon and Braunton – after bowling the Exeter side out for 81 in just 28 overs after winning the toss.

Star bowler for Uplyme was Tyler Wellman, who claimed three victims for the loss of 24 runs off seven overs. Good performances with the ball also came from Jack Lamb-Wilson, Preston Hilless and Andrew Harrison who each claimed two victims.

In reply, Uplyme struggled against the pace of South African Luan Liebenberg, who claimed 3 for 22 off nine overs. But scores of 22 from Preston Hilless and skipper Sam Farrow and 13 from Tyler Wellman was sufficient to see them over the line.

Alphington and Countess Wear 1st X1 4 points; Uplyme and Lyme Regis 1st X1 19 points.

E DIVISION EAST

A five-wicket victory at Sidbury saw Chardstock move into fourth place in the division.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, setting Chardstock a target of 144 all out off 36 overs. Billy Collin (47) was the only home batsmen to trouble the Sidbury attack.

In reply, it was skipper Robbie Hutchings who yet again steered his side to victory with an unbeaten 62 off 65 balls. Alex Dunesby (27) and Sam Reynolds (20) weighed in with useful runs as Chardstock coasted to victory with five wickets intact.

Sidbury 5 points; Chardstock 20 points.

F DIVISION EAST

Kilmington 2nd X1continued their winning form with a competitive three-wicket victory away to Bradninch and Kentisbeare.

The home team won the toss and elected to bat, setting Kilington a challenger 250 runs to chase with the loss of five wickets. Sam Olive (2-49) returned the best bowling figures for Kilmington.

Kilmington relied on the middle order to steer them to victory with No 4 Robert Meakings (56) and No 5 Benjamin Webb (62) doing the damage.

Bradninch and Kentisbeare 3rd X1 8 points; Kilmington 2nd X1 17 points.

G DIVISION EAST

Seaton 2nd X1 were in scintillating form at home to Heathcote hitting 382 runs and then bowling out their visitors for just 44 in 19 overs.

It was a fine batting display by the Seaton 2nd X1 with openers Toby Tucker and Tristan Wakeley both hitting centuries before retiring to give the other batters a go. The momentum was continued with Bobby Dormer hitting 85 and Charlie Wheeler carrying his bat for 35.

Star bowler for Seaton was James Jamani who finished with the impressive figures of 4-5 off 4 overs.

The victory sees Seaton move into third place in the table.

H DIVISION EAST

Axminster Two 2nds put up a brave fight away to Barnstaple and Pilton 2nd X1, losing by just 17 runs.

After winning the toss Barnstaple put themselves into bat, scoring 217 for the loss of seven wickets in the 40 overs. Andrew Guppy was Axminster's best bowler with figures of 3-74 off eight overs.

Axminster replied with Daniel Larcombe (93) and Owen Enticott (200) but they ran at of overs with two wickets left just 17 runs short.
