Uplyme Muffin Men set the pace in the East Devon Bash

MATCHWEEK 2

Uplyme and Lyme Regis, enjoying a stellar season in both league and T-20 fixtures, sit comfortably at the top of the East Devon Bash after the Muffin Men's eight-wicket victory over the Ottery Rising Super Beavers.

The Beavers won the toss and decided to bat first but they were soon in trouble at 16-4 with the early order batsmen failing to test the home attack. Skipper Uzayr Parker halted the slump with a knock of 42 off 37 balls and they were all out for 115 with just three balls left to bowl.

Nabi Temori was the pick of the Muffin Men's bowlers, finishing with four wickets for the loss of just nine runs off 3.3 overs.

In reply, Uplyme knocked off the required runs for the loss of just one wicket, thanks to an explosive 54 runs from overseas star Anand Abhishek off 20 balls, including five sixes and four 4s, before retiring not out and leaving his colleagues to complete their winning score of 117 in ten overs.

Upottery Swingers travelled to Sidbury Moles who won the toss and elected to field.

They lost both openers early on before skipper Matt Broom (16), Adam Retter (11) and Adam Pulman (11) steadied the ship but the remaining batters struggled and the Swingers were all out for 89 in 17.5 overs.

Bowling honours for the Swingers went to Damien Armes, Soren Hall, Mark Smallacombe and Charlie Roberts who grabbed two wickets apiece.

The Moles also found runs hard to come by and fell short by four runs, having lost seven wickets. Top scorer was Ed Chester who hit 32 off 38 balls including four 4s.

Seaton Pirates won their first game with a 102-run victory at Honiton Hawks, the highlight of the game being a brilliant knock of 132 not out by Adam Bilson. Dave Haysom scored 30 and Riley Burgess took 1-12. No further details available.
