Saturday 18th June Torquay 1st XI v Kilmington 1st XI

Kilmington visited Torquay for the first time knowing that the home side had lost pace bowler George Benton to local rivals Paignton in the week, writes Mattin Huscroft.

However, the news that Somerset and England under 19 paceman Sonny Baker was on the team sheet brought home that we were in for a challenging afternoon, even though, as it turned out, he was only playing as a batsman as part of his recuperation.

Kilmington won the toss and batted, but the innings never got going. Joel Seward battled really hard for his 20, but the rest of the innings was made up of no more than bits and pieces. A total of 113 all out was undoubtedly a disappointing outcome. Harry Passenger (4-15) and Chris Kelmere (3-17), were the pick of the bowlers.

Kilmington fought really hard in the field, as Torquay won on 114-5, but took 30 overs to get them. Passenger (22) and Tim Western (25) made runs and Josh Short's spell of 2-17 in his 10 overs kept them honest. Kilmington will regroup and try and get their early season mojo back as they prepare for a crucial game away to Barton next week.

Rain ruins Seaton's chance of first victory

Late afternoon rain scuppered any chance that Seaton had of their first first victory of the season at home to Abbtskerwell.

Firrmly entrenched at bottom of th table, Seaton won the toss and put the visitors into bat. A glorious 104 from opener Charlie Hill put them on their way, followed by 73 from wicketkeeper Chris Sleep as Abborskerwell posted 318-7 off 50 overs.

Tim Doulton was the pick of the Seaton bowlers, finishing with figures of 3-58 off ten overs.

Before stumps were drawn due to the rain, Seaton made a brave effort in the run chase, finishing on 174 for the loss of just two wickets, later revised to 201 off 34 overs. Opener Matthew Hewer carried his bat for 51 and Adam Bilston added 57.

Seaton 6 points; Abbotskerwell 16 points.
