Seaton Memory Cafe kicks off town's coronation celebrations
Seaton Memory Cafe kicked off the town's coronation celebrations with a special party on Bank Holiday Monday.
Members of the Memory Cafe marked the occasion of the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla with a very British fish and chip lunch, followed by traditional trifle and entertainment from local group Patches.
Those attending the party at Seaton Methodist Church were encouraged to wear red, while and blue with some donning Union Jack hats and crowns for the occasion, while Mel Mills dressed as the Memory Cafe's very own King.
The Memory Cafe would like to thank all those who supported the event, including Seaton Town Council for funding the party, Seaton Post Office, Seaton Tramway and The Coast for raffle prizes, Seaton Fish Bar for supplying the fish and chips, and Seaton Methodist Church for hosting.
In particular, thanks go to Seaton Memory Cafe's dedicated team of 12 volunteers, who provide a place for support and guidance to people who are living with everyday changes due to dementia and memory loss. Those who are living with or have been affected by dementia know the devastating consequences this can have on individuals and their families.
Over the past nine years that Seaton Memory Cafe has been running, more than 100 members have come through the doors and a year ago they started their own Carers Support Group.
Chair and co-ordinator Yvonne Addington said: "I have felt very privileged to be part of the lives of those who have attended the monthly meetings, which are two hours of an ongoing reminiscence programme, and today will definitely be a day to remember, surrounded by people who care about people."
Seaton is now looking forward to a weekend programme of celebrations. You can find full details of the coronation programme here.
