Preparations are underway for a full weekend of celebrations in Colyton to mark the coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort Camilla.

The television coverage of the coronation is set to be shown on a big screen at St Andrew's Church in Colyton on the morning of Saturday, May 6 where refreshments will be served.

You can then put on your dancing shoes for the town's coronation party at the Peace Memorial playing field from 4pm til late, come rain or shine, featuring live music from Mojo Stone Cold Players, a bouncy castle, face painting, barbecue and bar.

A civic service will be held at St Andrew's Church on the morning of Sunday, May 7, followed by a street party with DJ in Church Street from 12.30pm to 3pm, or in the Town Hall in the event of poor weather. The whole community are invited to attend and bring their own picnic.

The winners of a week-long coronation-theme shop window competition will be announced at the party.

Events for the national 'Big Help Out' on Bank Holiday Monday, May 8, and an exhibition by Colyton Primary Academy over the weekend, are still in the planning stages, so keep an eye out for further announcements.

There will also be a Conservation Exhibition featuring the parish of Colyton in the Town Hall on Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20 in recognition of our 'Green King'.

Colyton will also be adding a further banner to celebrate the coronation to its much-admired collection of heraldic banners that decorate the town each summer.

Launched in 2015, the team has created 36 banners that add colour to the town in summer and attract tourists, but more volunteers are now neede dto keep this project going.

Anyone interested in volunteering should email [email protected] or [email protected]

If you are holding a coronation event in the Seaton area, please send details to [email protected] for publicity and coverage on Seaton Nub News.
