Huge crowds turned out for the Seaton Summer Celebration in Cliff Field Gardens on Thursday, kicking off the Platinum Jubilee weekend.
Organised by Seaton Town Council, the event included live music, a display by Seaton Majorettes, laser clay pigeon shooting, circus skills workshops, stalls and games.
Hundreds poured through the gates to enjoy an afternoon and evening of entertainment, bringing with them picnics and drinks to enjoy with family and friends.
The evening culminated with the lighting of a beacon by the Mayor of Seaton, Cllr Amrik Singh, standing in for Freeman of Seaton, Ted Gosling, who could not attend due to illness.
Town clerk Julia Mutlow commented: "Today Seaton celebrated the Platinum Jubilee in the most spectacular fashion, in the most stunning location and I could not be prouder to serve as your town clerk or of Team Seaton – the tiny and utterly dedicated staff (Jo, Paul, Phil and Hester) that serve this wonderful town – who delivered today's event , alongside their very busy day-to-day jobs.
"We carried out a community consultation last year and asked what you wanted. You said festivals and events. Today, we gave that to you and loved doing so and want to thank all the community groups, volunteers and others who supplied the infrastructure to deliver such a spectacular, but especially all of you who came along with your picnics and provided the best of atmospheres.
"A special mention should be made of Alfie and the mayor - Cllr Amrik Singh - who stepped in for Ted Gosling to light the beacon, and we wish Ted a swift recovery. We missed you Ted, but so glad you did the right thing and put your health first.
"Councils are often criticised, as we cannot always deliver everything that everyone would like, especially little town councils – but today we absolutely delivered for all the wonderful people of Seaton to come together and we are so glad you enjoyed it."
Earlier in the day, residents and visitors enjoyed a free screening of the Trooping of the Colour and flypast in London, hosted by Seaton's Gateway Theatre.
Events will continue throughout the weekend in Seaton and surrounding towns and villages. Click here for today's events and look out for daily updates throughout the weekend.
