Several Seaton artists are currently taking part in the Devon Open Studios event, which will run until September 27th.

Devon Open Studios is a unique opportunity to meet artists in their studios in some of the most beautiful, unexplored parts of Devon. In addition to being able to buy art direct from the creator, many demonstrate, give talks or give you a chance to have a go.

A cornucopia of art is on offer across Devon with more than 200 resident artists and crafts people opening their studios to show and sell their individual artworks to the public.

The diversity of studios is remarkable; you can explore venues ranging from potter's studios in meadows to medieval barns, sinuous sculpture gardens or garrets by the sea.

Multi-disciplinary artist Julie Robertson has just opened the new Kamikaze Tortoise Studio & Gallery and she is among the local artists taking part in this year's Devon Open Studios.

The quirky name of the studio name came about on an arty daytrip to Eynsham in Oxfordshire. Whilst trying to find a venue in the village, Julie spotted a tortoise heading for the busy main road and a pile of spilt fruit. She rescued the tortoise and told her friend, "If I ever have a studio, I'll have to call it Kamikaze Tortoise!"

The name has stuck and Julie, a finalist in the Global Art Awards two years ago, is now exhibiting sculpture, canvases and photography on themes on equality and humanity.

You can find the studio at No 7, Rogers Way, off Barnards Hill Lane, Seaton (EX12 2FY) or visit www.jkrart.weebly.com

Kerri-Ann Briggs is an artist, illustrator and tutor with more than 10 years experience teaching adults and children. She is the resident artist at Devon Art Supplies in Seaton, where she is currently hosting a solo exhibition as part of the Devon Open Studios.

On show is a selection of prints, frames originals, cards and more and Kerri will be working away in her adjoining studio, where visitors can watch her paint.

Devon Art Supplies can be found at 30 Queen Street, Seaton (EX12 2RB), open from 9.30am - 2.30pm Monday to Saturday or visit the website www.kabriggs.co.uk

Savooni Gallery in Seaton is also exhibiting "the best in contemporary abstract painting" for Devon Open Studios, with artists Ali Foxcroft, Nigel Waters, Rich Webster and Ian Flynn showcasing their work.

You can find the Savooi Gallery at 6A Beer Road EX12 2 Seaton or visit the Facebook page www.facebook.com/richwebsterart

A further exhibition by Ian Flynn and Norma Walton is being held at Seaton Jurassic, and Ian and Ali Foxcroft both have work exhibited on the recently-replaced art boards at the Harbour Road roundabout outside Marshlands as part of a new Seaton Art Trail.

Ian, a multidisciplinary artist whose current work includes local landscapes rendered with marker pens, commented: "It's been a fantastic opportunity for me to display my work as I have only recently started doing this type of work, previously I was mostly digital portraits and sculptural forms.

"Richard at Savooni has been fantastic at supporting me and the staff at Seaton Jurassic has also been very receptive to my work; it makes me feel proud to live in Seaton, and to have such a wonderful nurturing community."
