Flood warnings are in place around the Axe Valley area persistent heavy rainfall with more forecast.

Flooding is possible today (Saturday) with heavy overnight rain and more this morning.

Rivers are rising, and there will likely be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the River Axe.

Colyton Fire Station has reported that Whitford Bridge and Cownhayne Lane are impassable, with one van airways having to be helped out of flood water today.

A statement from Axminster Fire Station said: "Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions. We are monitoring river levels and are ready to respond as required.

"Please only travel if it is essential, and remember never enter fast flowing water or any flood water where you are unsure of the depth.

"If you are walking your dogs by the river please keep them on a lead or away from the river bank as it is currently very fast flowing."
