Disposable barbecue sparks skip fire

By Francesca Evans 21st Sep 2020

Seaton fire crew have warned of the dangers of disposable barbecues after being called to a skip fire on Sunday morning.

The fire broke out after a disposable barbecue was discarded in a skip at Axmouth Yacht Club.

The Seaton crew were called to the scene just before 11am and found the skip well alight on arrival. They used one hose reel jet and one CAFS jet to extinguish the fire.

A spokesperson for Seaton fire crew said: "Please be careful when disposing of these and make sure they are fully extinguished or placed in a metal bin provided by the council."
