Colyton Carnival honoured the late Queen Elizabeth II on Saturday evening.

News of the death of the UK's longest-reigning monarch came just two days before Colyton's carnival procession was due to take place, and organisers decided to go ahead with the event as a celebration of the Queen's life.

As a mark of respect, the procession was stopped for a minute's silence and the National Anthem was played.

It was the first time a carnival procession had been held in Colyton since 2019, due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the town was packed with crowds who cheered on the illuminated floats and walking entries.

Axminster will have to wait another month for its carnival procession, which was due to take place this coming Saturday. The event has been postponed amid funeral arrangements for the Queen's state funeral and will now be held on Saturday, October 15.
