Two businesses in Fore Street, Seaton – including a charity shop – were targeted by thieves in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Seaton & District Hospital League of Friends shop was broken into shortly before 3am on Friday, September 9 with a large amount of cash and some jewellery stolen.

Reporting the incident and sharing CCTV video on Facebook, the League reported that the culprit smashed locks on the front door, wall safe and cash box before taking the money and jewellery.

From CCTV images, it appears the thief arrived on an electric scooter and was wearing a hooded jumper and backpack.

The League, which raises funds for Seaton Hospital and its much-praised Hospice at Home service, commented: "It takes a special kind of person to stoop this low.

"This money represents your generous donations and was destined to fund very worthy local causes. We would love to recover it!"

Anyone with information on this incident should contact the League of Friends or the police directly on 101 quoting crime reference number 083169/22.

It has also been reported that the Taste of Devon Butchers on Fore Street was also broken into at a similar time.

Commenting on Facebook, they said: "So sorry for everyone affected by this, such a sad day for our lovely town.

"If anyone has any other CCTV of around Fore Street and Cross Street, please can you share it with Taste of Devon Butchers."
