Following the record-breaking success of 'The Duke' Beer Film Society will be showing another top British film at the Mariners' Hall on Thursday, September 15 – 'Operation Mincemeat' (12).

Starring Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen, Jason Isaacs, Penelope Wilton and Kelly Macdonald the film tells the amazing true story of a deception conceived by British Intelligence to fool the Germans regarding the true target for the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943.

Even legendary James Bond author Ian Fleming (Johnny Flynn) makes an appearance!

What the critics say

Danny Leigh (Financial Times): "The wholesome mood of spiffing pluck reminds us of the best of those British war movies actually made within shouting distance of 1945, before the country turned the genre into an industry."

Stephanie Zacharek (TIME Magazine): "It works beautifully as a romance, (and) it's also a cracking espionage caper.

Future screenings

Thursday October 13: The Outfit (15), takes us back to Chicago in the 1950's with an old-school thriller in which a master tailor, played by the imperious Mark Rylance, must outwit a dangerous group of mobsters in order to survive a fateful night.

Thursday November 17: The Rocket (12), is a heart-warming tale set in Laos about a 10-year-old boy whose family believe that he brings bad luck to everyone around him and his determination to prove them wrong, by entering the most exciting and dangerous competition of the year: the Rocket Festival.

The last film evening of 2022 will be on December 8: further details to follow.
