The Men's section at Axe Cliff Golf Club have been active as always with completion last Sunday of their Daily Mail Foursomes competition.

Messrs D. Hales and D. Hodder won with a very good net 63, beating the strong pairing of A. Anning and J. Gait who had 65, leaving Seniors Stuart Mackie and Alan Morgan to take third spot with a fine 68.

They are seniors with Stuart now retired and Alan in his 80th year but young enough to compete with the youngsters on an even keel.

On the previous Sunday, whilst playing in a round of the Winter League, Richard Gibbons, on a day off from his Garage business, achieved yet another hole-in-one. I am reliably informed that was his third in his to relatively young golfing life.

I have played for over 40 years and am still waiting for my first ( mind you I have hit the flag a few times).

the par 3 ,11th hole with Paul Clode on the left and captain Andy Jeffrey on the right congratulating him. Last Friday there was a good turnout for the Seniors in Monthly Medal. I don't know why but it appeared to be a difficult day with more 'No Results' than normal. It was not the weather as it was dry and not too cold. I think it may have something to do with the greens being very hard and fast to start with due to the heavy frost. As a result, not many great scores apart from Terry Atkins winning Division One with a net 68. He was a club champion from his former club so only to be expected and I bet you he had a sausage hot dog when he came in. Andy Hopgood also played well to take second spot with 72 and Paul Curtin, always steady and never breaks one, came third with a 74, just beating Bill Polley on countback. In Division Two Welsh Baritone David Evans continued with his good form with a net 70. Chris Alexander took second spot with 77 and it was good to see captain

David Lacey taking third place with 78.

David also led the eight-man team last Tuesday at home in the second winter Jurassic League game with Lyme Regis and Sidmouth.

Axe Cliff were second on the day from Sidmouth by one point but Lyme Regis are in the lead before we have the last game at Sidmouth shortly.
