Feniton 2nd X1 3

Millwey Rise 1st X1 4

With a strong wind behind them and playing down the slope, Millwey started on the front foot and an early effort from Sam Dibling dipped over the home side's crossbar.

The visitors continued applying the pressure but without any further success. Feniton then began to cause some consternation in the Millwey defence but without creating any clear-cut chances. Millwey's Jack Bennett had a shot deflected for a corner before seizing on to a Ty Allan pass to open the scoring on 20 minutes.

Rise went further ahead on the half-hour when Sam Dibling cut in from the right and smashed the ball past the keeper. Feniton then came very close when a shot was pushed onto the post when Rise keeper Jason Hoole and cleared by a grateful defence.

The half-finished with Nathan Womersley gliding past a couple of defenders before seeing his shot well held by the Fenny keeper.

Millwey introduced all five substitutes at the start of the second period. The home side immediately went on the attack with the wind and slope in their favour. They failed to make use of a free-kick just outside the visitor's penalty area but had not long to wait before poor defending allowed Oscar Downs to pull a goal back.

Exerting more pressure, Fenny then drew level when Mark Harris scored direct from a corner. Rise immediately went on the attack and a Brook Wilkins effort skimmed the cross bar.

Following a Feniton free-kick, which was cleared by Stuart King, Millwey's Giles Basson fed the ball to Sam Burke who lashed the ball into the net to gain the lead once more. Basson then added the fourth goal when he latched on to Zak Meeker's pin-point pass and placed the ball wide of the advancing keeper.

Millwey again came close when Basson saw a powerful shot turned around the post for a corner.

The final ten frenetic minutes saw Fenny's Mark Harris score with a powerful header from a free-kick then Millwey's Stuart King, originally 'sin binned' but eventually 'red carded' after a complete misunderstanding by the referee. A great save by Hoole ensured Rise held onto their lead until the final whistle.

A game full of endeavour rather than skilful football kept the outcome in the balance. For Millwey defender Gary Beament was given the man-of-the-match award but again it was a good all-round effort from all concerned.

Next Saturday (April 17),Millwey Rise visit East Budleigh 2nd X1 (kick-off 3pm).
