UPLYME 1sts got back to winning ways with a comfortable 4-1 home win over a physical Donyatt in Perry Street Division Two – but yet again their opponents were determined to kick them off the park using any tactics necessary.

After dropping points last week Uplyme were more decisive in front of goal, with an excellent double from the sharp Alex Jones giving the Swallows a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Donyatt's aggressive tactics affected Uplyme's rhythm in the second half. They conceded a penalty but it was blazed over the trees and across the cricket ground.

This was a wake-up call for Uplyme and they immediately swept upfield and Oscar Sladen smashed in a great volley to kill the game.

Niall Fifer finished off a great footballing move late in the game.

Uplyme manager Steve Gillan, concerned about the way his young team are being treated by some of the more robust sides in Perry Street football, commented after the game: "It's a shame the term 'It's a man's game' gets trotted out by so many older men in these leagues, those who struggle to keep up with fitter, better players and, instead, have to use sad tactics.

"Referees really need to clamp down on it in Perry Street. It's a sad reflection of some teams in the lower leagues and it'll deter some of our younger lads from playing if they're not protected better."

Uplyme 2nds were no match for strong Thorncombe side in Perry Street Division Three, losing 6-2.

This coming Saturday Uplyme 1sts, who are sitting pretty in second place in Division Three, are away to Chard Rangers 1sts who are bottom of the table after losing all three of their opening games. Uplyme Reserves.
