Tigers' first win in 2022

After a disappointing 2-2 draw against local rivals Sidmouth Town in midweek, a game the Tigers would have expected to win, Axminster Town got their first win of 2022 yesterday with a 1-0 victory in windy conditions at Newton Abbot Spurs.

The win saw Axe jump two places in the South West Peninsular Premier East division to eighth position with games in hand over the four teams above them.

Elsewhere, the heavy rain in midweek caused a number of postponements for the third week running.

In the Devon and Exeter Premier Division, Beer Albion travelled along the coast to strugglers Sidmouth Town and returned with a 1-0 win which keeps them in third place in the table.

Exeter University moved into fifth place above Lyme Regis with after drawing 2-2 with second placed Thorverton. Lyme were due to meet Kentisbeare at the Davey Fort but the East Devon villagers were unable to raise a team and had to forfeit the points.

Seaton Town got their eighth win of the season with a 2-1 away win over Devon Yeoman but in Division Four Millwey Rise took a 6-0 thumping from Cullompton Rangers whose first team did not have a game.

In Division Six Uplyme emerged 4-3 winners in an exciting game against leaders St Thomas Social Club. The Swallows, in third place, have three games in hand over second place University of Exeter and are bidding for a promotion place in their first season in Devon and Exeter football.

MIllwey Rise Reserves took a 5-0 beating away to Exeter Panthers in Division Eight.
