Axminster Town sit on top the South West Peninsular League Premier East division after winning their opening two games of the new season.

The Tigers started the new campaign with a resounding 5-2 victory at home to Torrington and last evening (Wednesday) they travelled to neighbours Cullompton Rangers and banged in another four goals without reply. In fact, it could have been a bigger margin had it not been for some brilliant saves from the Cully keeper

Axminster sit on top of the Premier East table on goal average above Ivybridge Town and Okehampton Argyle, all on six points.

New-signing Craig Veal is proving to be a great acquisition, hitting two goals after netting a brace against Torrington. Josh Wadham also got on the scoresheet with two excellent strikes.

Having finished in sixth place in the Premier East Division last season, the highest position they had ever achieved, manager Dan Prettejohn is confident his squad can improve on that in the current season.

This coming Saturday, Axminster travel to Bovey Tracey, who are tenth in the table, having won one of their two opening fixtures.

After the game, manager Dan Prettejohn said: "The spine of our team through to the prolific Craig Veal was fantastic, Tm Edwards (man-of-the-match), filling in for centre back Chris McGrath, was exceptional."

The Tigers' next home match is against Newston Abbot Spurs on Saturday, August 20.
