Axminster Town's ground at Tiger Way has been accorded the accolade of being the best ground in the South West Peninsular League's Easter division.

The award, sponsored by Onesport, was announced on social media yesterday (Monday). Axminster were declared as the winners of the Eastern division with Cullompton Rangers in second place.

A Facebook posting from the club congratulated groundsman Jamie Barfoot and his assistant David Morgan on all their hard work during the past season, describing their effort as "superb".

Barefoot recently announced he was stepping down as manager of the Tigers' Reserve side to concentrate on playing next season but he intended to continue as groundsman.

The facilities at Tiger Way are considered to be among the best on the western peninsular. As well as the main pitch on which the first team play, there is also a second ground and plans are being investigated for an artificial surface pitch as well.

Axminster Town moved to Tiger Way in a £1.2 million project after selling their iconic Sector Lane ground off Lyme Road which is now a housing estate.

This past season Axminster, managed by Dan Prettejohn, finished in sixth place in the South Western Peninsular East division, their best position ever.
