Axminster Town celebrated Easter with a goal-fest – beating Ottery St Mary 7-0 on Good Friday and then slamming in eight goals without reply past Plymouth Marjon at home on Easter Monday.

With three fixtures left to play, the successful Easter results cements the Tigers' seventh place in the South West Peninsular Premier division and there's an outside chance they could finish in the top six place, depending on how their nearest rival, Newton Abbott Spurs, fare in their last three games.

That would be considered to be an excellent finish to the season, taking into account some of the issues the cub has experienced during this past difficult year with COVID-19 restrictions and disciplinary issues.

New signing Steve Murray made his mark in the Ottery game, getting his first hat-trick for the club and the other goals were scored by Jamie Short (2), Ross Mcerlain, Jamie Price and Lewis Waldy.

Man-of-the-match was the hard working and in-form Richard Hebditch.

In their two previous games, the Tigers drew 2-2 on both occasions away to Brixham and at home to Dartmouth. At third placed Brixham they put an excellent all-round performance and rescued a point with two late goals from Josh Wadham (penalty) and Breaden Symes. Man-of-the-match was centre back Chris McGrath, who returned from injury.

Against Dartmouth their two goals came from from a Chris McGrath header and Jamie Short. The man-of-the-match award went to Breadon Symes. Another Axminster player was given his marching orders late in the game.

This coming Saturday Axe travel to Dartmouth for the return fixture and their last home match will see struggling Ottery St Mary visit Tiger Way on Wednesday, April 27 (kick-off 7.30pm).

That same evening match sponsors throughout the season are being invited to a reception so the club can thank them for their support.

Last Saturday Axminster Reserves drew 0-0 with Devon and Exeter Premier division bottom club Ottery St Mary and tonight (Wednesday)  they host leaders Lapford at Tiger Way (kick-off 7.30 pm).
