The Axe Cliff Ladies braved the weather last Wednesday to enjoy their annual Bring & Win stableford competition.

Captain Paula Heasman aptly commented: "The morning was dry with LIVELY AIR."

It was sensibly played over 12 holes with the top four separated by only two points. Stella Thompson took the honours with 19 points from last year's captain, Anne Jarvis, on 18, closely followed by Jill Wellington and Sandra Walker, both with 17. Everybody was happy as all went home with a lovely gift.

The Seniors' captain, David Lacey, sensibly called off the fun game, named Famous Golfers last Friday as the weather was terrible. I think a few turned up but whether they were daft enough to play is another matter. An extra lie-in was my preference!

The Men's Section recently competed in their March Medal/Cosh trophy in better conditions as evidenced by their scores. Paul Clode won Division One with 83-12 = 71 net on countback from Luke Snell. Senior Stuart Mackie showed his class with a net 73 off his low

handicap of 10 - not many seniors off 10 these days. I did get down to 11 once when I was in my prime of 40-ish at the Mendip Golf Club, now struggling on 28. The Division Two winners played even better, especially Dean Hodder with an excellent 89-22 = 67 net. Mark Winterbottom was not far behind with his 89-20=69 and another evergreen Senior, Nigel Pritchard, also showed his class with 84-13= 71 to take third spot. The club was delighted to host a number of Golf Monthly editors last Tuesday with Kyle Philpotts and Simon Wellington taking them out to play the course. They were full of praise for the course with its stunning views and could not understand why we were not inundated with members - but perhaps one day if our landlord's plans come to fruition on his exciting further improvements to the clubhouse, etc. They were very complimentary about the friendliness of both our members and hardworking staff which is so Axe Cliff. Look out for their article in July and join now before the ensuing rush.
