Millwey Rise 2nd X1 4, South Zeal 2nd X1 0

This win saw Millwey move up to sixth place in Devon and Exeter Division Eight from the lowly position they were occupying just a month ago.

It was a well deserved win with everyone contributing to the victory. Jack Bennett came close in the early minutes of the half on a couple of occasions before netting the first goal courtesy of a keeping error.

They continued attacking the visitors goal at every opportunity and dealt adequately in smothering any attack on their own. Ashly Hall was the prime mover in their second goal when he picked up a loose ball and ran half the length of the pitch before laying on a pass to Ben Rosling who cooley slotted the ball home for a 2-0 lead which Rise maintained to the break.

Manager Terry Male made a half-time substitution and Alex Osborne replaced Josh Marlow. Cam Board increased the lead to 3-0 and further attempts by Bogdan Tudor and Alex Osborne came close to increasing the total. Ashly Hall who had been very prominent in the Rise midfield gave way to Brett Garner. Minutes later Dave Bridges fed Rosling through for his second goal and Millwey's fourth.

Several more substitutions took place in the Rise ranks before an unexpected addition landed on the centre spot in the form of a Canada Goose which had to be escorted to the side-line where it remained a spectator. Brett Garner then, so unnerved by the intervention, missed a rather simple opportunity of adding to the lead heralded by a very loud honking from the touchline!

South Zeal did manage a shot on goal in the dying minutes which flew over the bar.

This was a comprehensive victory for Millwey. The whole team played well and it was difficult to allocate a man-of-the Match but the management team chose Theo Souttar-Stone for his all-round influence on the game.
