Beer Albion have done the Devon & Exeter League proud by winning the Sportslighting Devon Premier cup. It has been 32 years since a D & E side won the trophy, but finally it has been captured by l ocal teams.
The final against North Molton Sports Club finished 1-1, the Fishermen coming from behind to equalise from man-of-the match Charlie Skilton and then winning 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shoot out.
North Molton, from the Devon League whose Dylan Williams gave them the lead, ended the final with ten men due to a red card, but they really came second best to an Albion side cheered on by a mighty following from East Devon.
No one roared louder than manager Mark Rooke's mum in the packed grandstand, but she and the Beer Barmy Army could not have been prouder of what the side have achieved.
The North Molton team, managed by former Broadclyst boss Paul White, made it a terrific final, but Beer celebrations went on into the night when supporters got back to Furzebrake for a nightcap.
For the record Beer now join the elite few who have won this trophy, the first teams of Dawlish Town twice, Exmouth Town Newton St Cyres and Chelston in 1990.
It was the Fishermen's final match before they move up to the Devon League next season, but the D & E League share the glory of the day and will celebrate what is an historic achievement.
Hot favourites Lapford won the East Devon Senior cup for the first time when they beat Upottery 3-1. The Division One side gave it their best shot but lacked the overall power to really trouble the Premier champions.
