Young Tigers go top the league

Pen Mill Under 14s 1, Axminster Town Under 14s 3

This was The Tigers first game for several weeks due to the weather and again this match was affected and switched to Yeovil Town's 3G pitch.

It made little difference to Axminster's game plan as they came out roaring, looking dangerous in attack and comfortable in defence.

The first two goals were very similar. After a quick one-two Theo Dibling smashed them both into the bottom corner.

Pen Mill, who before the game were top of the league, battled back into the game to grab a goal just before half-time with a far post header.

The second half started the same as the first with the Tigers looking fairly comfortable. But they very nearly let the home team back into the game.

Stand-in keeper George Manning was closed down very quickly to kick the ball at the on-rushing striker which then rebounded in off the post.

With midfield due of Alex Dixon, Fin Jenkin and Robbie Irvine-Bell working hard and combining well, Axe scored the decisive this goal to secure the three points. Dibling picked up the ball from the midfield trio and unleashed a long range shot which cannoned off the bar. Luke Hill reacted quickly to the rebound and slid the ball home for the final goal.

Tigers saw out the game to go above Pen Mill into first position in the table. The man-of-the-match accolade was shared by Theo Dibling and Robbie Irvine-Bell.

Great credit goes to the defensive back four - Edd, Ollie, G Ruben and Isaac - who kept out the quick Pen Mill attackers.
