Axminster Town FC have parted company with first team manager Josh Stunell and his assistant John Clements.

In a statement from club chairman Andy Hurford, it was confirmed that after three seasons together at the club it was felt a fresh approach was required with the priority of building a team team squad that can compete in the top half of the SouthWest Peninsular Premier East division.

Mr Hurford said: "We would like to thank both Josh and John for their efforts, especially during a difficult period for the club off the pitch. Applicants for the first team management will be sought in due course."

The Tigers have struggled in the Premium East Division this season and when games were halted by the COVID-19 lockdowns they were lying third from the bottom of the table with just three wins and one draw.

Before lockdown the cub brought in former Yeovil striker Warren Pattmore, one of the most successful managers in non-league football in the south west, to help Stunnell and Clements but the results were still disappointing.

Following the government announcement on Monday that local football can restart on March 29, there has been no official announcement from the League about fixtures recommencing. The FA have agreed to extend the season to the end of June in a bid to accommodate the backlog, but games currently scheduled from March 13th-19th will be listed as postponed.

Axminster Reserves, managed by Dan Prettejohn, were leading the Devon & Exeter League Division Two East when the season was stopped.

League Secretary Neil Anthony has informed the League's Management team that they will review the remainder of the season following the Prime Minister's statement and an expected statement from the FA.

The League has called off their monthly Zoom meeting as no football has been played, but are hopeful of making a decision on the rest of the 2020-2021 season as soon as possible.

Although games could start again on Marc 29th, social facilities at clubhouses, in which club's make most of their money, will not be able to open until later in the year
