Axminster Reserves maintained their position at the top of the reset Devon and Exeter League Division Two East with a comfortable 3-0 win at Feniton 2nds on Easter Monday.

They now lead the table with 29 points from nine games, with Ottery St Mary in second place and Millwey Rise third.

The win at Feniton was a distinct improvement on the 2-2 draw against neighbours Millwey the previous Saturday, despite missing five players, all carrying injuries after a tough encounter with their neighbours.

But such is the strength of the Axminster second string that they were able to bring in five more players without weakening the side.

The first goal came after 19 minutes when Ryan Vickery's shot rebounded off a player and he volleyed it home.

Sam Winslade made it 2-0 with a fine shot that took a slight defection and that's how the scoreline stayed until half-time.

Goal number three came on 70 minutes after good build-up and an excellent finish by Tom Edwards.

Manager Dan Prettejohn was impressed with the performance of teenage winner Kyle Williams who be believes is knocking on the door of regular place in the Reserves' squad.

Prettejohn, who will be managing Axminster 1st in the South West Peninsular League Premier East Division next season, believes he has four or five players in the Reserves who are capable of making the step up.

Although it's early days yet, Prettejohn is making contact with this season first team players inviting them all to pre-season training which should commence towards the end of June.

There was some disappointment when Axminster were reformed this season that they did not get a place in the Devon and Exeter Division One East. Because of COVID there will be no promotion this season which means the Reserves may well have to spend another season in Division Two.

On Saturday te Reserves are at home to East Budeigh 2nds who are secondfrom bottom in the table. The following Wednesday, the Tigers have their Devon Intermediate Cup match against Broadclyst 1st and the game has been switched to Tiger Way (kick-off 6.30pm).
