Crucial last three games for the Tigers
Crucial last three games for the Tigers

After a brilliant performance in the semi-final of the Walter C Parsons Cup last week in which they were denied a final place, losing on penalties against Ottery St Mary, Axminster Town put in a poor performance in a league match at Teignmouth on Saturday.

Losing 3-1 to the South Devon club saw Axminster drop out of the top five and with near rivals Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbott Spurs both winning, it means the Tigers have to win their last three fixtures to beat last season' sixth place, a target manager Dan Prettyjohn set his squad.

Axminster are back in action on Wednesday night at Torrington AFC who are down in 16th place, having won just eight of their 33 games.

The Tigers have demonstrated on a number of occasions this season that they can compete with the very best in the Peninsular East division so Prettyjohn will be expecting his squad to put the disappointing of last week's results behind them.

Saturday's fixture, at home to Bovey Tracey (kick-off 3pm), one place above Axminster but having played one more game, could be the decider of who finishes in fifth spot.
