Welcome to the new Nub News sports portal, exclusive to Axminster Nub News and Seaton Nub News.

If you're a member of a sporting organisation in the Axe Valley, we want to know about all your activities.

Our sports coverage will be co-ordinated by veteran West Country journalist Philip Evans who used to be managing director of Independent Newspapers Sports Publications in London which published magazines for Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham, Leeds and Manchester City and other publications for a number of other sports including cricket, rugby and American football.

Philip also co-wrote the Rob Andrew 1995 Rugby World Cup Diary in South Africa.

As a young man Philip was very much involved in the local sports scene, playing football for Axminster Town and his home club Lyme Regis and cricket for Uplyme & Lyme Regis. He is also a former chairman of both Lyme Regis FC and Uplyme cricket club and is currently president of Lyme football club.

We are kicking off the Nub News Sports Portal with reports on the local clubs competing in the Devon Cricket League Mini-League programme but will be extending coverage of other sports as and when they get going again after the coronavirus lockdown.

We are also running a Top Town Batsman and Bowler competition during the six-week mini-league programme leading up to the play-offs in September for players of the Axe Valley area clubs – ie Seaton, Axminster, Kilmington, Uplyme & Lyme Regis and Chardstock.

The batsman who hits the most runs and the bowler who takes the most wickets in the league matches will receive a £125 cash prize for their club as well as a trophy.

We will publish the leading run-makers and wicket-takers every week.

Email all your sporting news, reports and results, with photographs to [email protected]

Philip can also be contacted on 07796 951991.
