A DIVISION

Kilmington started life in the Devon Cricket League A Division after promotion last season with a low scoring 33-run victory away to Clyst St George.

Kilmington loss the toss and were put into bat but found runs hard to come by, being dismissed for 100 all out in 41.4 overs. The only batters to reach double figures were opener Tom Gooding (20), Joel Seward (12) and Sam Cuconits (11).

In reply, Clyst St George struggled to get runs on the board and were bowled out in just 30.3 overs for 67. Star bowler for Kilmington was Robert Crabb who claimed four victims at the cost of just 17 runs. Oliver Reed also bowled well for figures of 3 for 15 off 7.3 overs.

Clyst St George 6 points; Kilmington 17 points.

B DIVISION

Relegated last season, Seaton won their first game since since July 2021 with a seven-wicket home win over Bideford/Littleham/Westward Ho.

Seaton won the toss and put the visitors into bat, restricting the North Devon side to 141-8 off 41 overs. The man to do most damage was bowler Joseph Berry who finished with figures of 3 for 19 off seven overs.

In reply, Seaton started well with opener Damian Baxter scoring 42 off 42 balls but top scorer was No 4 Adam Bilston who carried his bat for a fine knock of 60, steering the home team to a winning score of 147 for the loss of just three wickets.

Seaton 19 points; Bideford/Littleham/Westward Ho 4 points.

C DIVISION EAST

In a bizarre clash at Ottery St Mary, Uplyme and Lyme Regis lost by just one run, conceding two byes on the last ball in a run-out attempt that felled the umpire.

Ottery won the toss and elected to field with Uplyme scoring 223-7 off the 45 overs. Star man with the bat for Uplyme was new overseas player Preston Hilless who hit a stylish 77 including nine fours. Good support also came from Joe Elsworth (43) and Andrew Harrison (33).

With an opening stand of 129 from openers Alex Clements (73) and Keith Moody (69), Ottery set about chasing the Uplyme target and it went right down to the last ball.

In a confusing incident which saw Uplyme umpire Gary Edgington hit in the nether reasons and left rolling in agony after being struck by the ball whilst Ottery ran two byes for a one-run victory. Uplyme claimed a dead ball but the umpires did not agree and Ottery were given the game.

Amid all the drama, Jack Lamb Wilson emerged as Uplyme's top bowler returning figures of 4-39.

Ottery St Mary 18 points; Uplyme and Lyme Regis 8 points.

E DIVISION EAST

Chardstock started their season with a win in a closely contested home match against Clyst St George 2nd X1.

The East Devon villagers won the toss and put Clyst into bat with Chardstock's six-man attack restricting them to 185 all out. Best bowling figures came from Nathan Copp (3 for 33).

Chardstock skipper Rob Hutchings' knock of 77 off 75 runs put the home team in a strong position but the low order failed to respond and in the end they reached a winning score of 186 with just one wicket standing.

Chardstock 19 points; Clyst St George 2nds X1 8 points.

D DIVISION EAST

Kilmington 2nds X1 loss the toss and were put into bat in their first game of the season at home to Upottery 2nd X1, being bowled out for 171 in 39.5 overs.

The home team got off to a steady start with oener Hal Cook hitting 45 and good support from Ralph Cook (45) and Alex Rockett (25). Further down the order captain Ashley Cook contributed a useful 18.

In reply, Upottery betted well down the order with Leon Jefferson top scoring with 45 in their winning totl of 174 with three wickets standing.

Kilmington's bowling honours were shared by Sam Olive (2 for 14) and Ashley Cook (2 for 28).

Kilmington 2nd X1 7 points; Upottery 2nds X1 20 points.

G DIVISION EAST

Seaton 2nd X1 enjoyed a comfortable first victory of the season with a 129-run victory away to Honiton 2nds X1.

Honiton won the toss And put SEaton into bat. HIghlight of the Seaton innings was the knock of 87 off of 80 balls from Tristan Wakeley with good support from Toby Ticker (66), and Michael Wheeler (40) steering the visitors to a score of 264-7.

Apart from a stylish 72 from skipper Janathan Hext, Honiton struggled to build a winning total and were all out for 135 with one wicket standing.

Seaton's bowling honours were shared by Fin Copp, Arthur Whitby, Charlie Wheeler and Toby Tucker who took two wickets apiece.
