C DIVISION EAST

UPLYME and Lyme Regis' promotion hopes took a severe and embarrassing blow on Saturday when they were bowled out for just 74 runs by their Devon League Division C East rivals Sandford.

Uplyme were replaced as league leaders by Sandford, but there is still only four points between the two sides which makes this weekend's away game at sixth place Sidmouth 2nds crucial.

Alphington and Countess Wear are in third place, five points behind Uplyme.

Sandford won the toss and decided to bat, running up 217 runs for Uplyme, fielding a much understrength side, 217 all-out total to chase.

The wickets were shared by Steve Batey, Sam Farrow, Jibu Varghese and Bruce Maltby, who claimed two victims apiece.

But Uplyme's reply was disastrous with no fewer than six players failing to score. Only two batters reached double figures – Steve Batey (23) and Anand Abishek (15).

Uplyme have been hit by a number of unavailabilities during August which could well cost them the title.

A DIVISION

Another defeat , the 16th on the trot away to Abbotskerwell, means that Seaton are definitely relrgated next season with just 73 points with two games left to play.

Abbotskerswell won the toss and elected to bat, running up a score of 327-4 off the 50 overs. It was a long, hard afternoon for the Seaton bowlers and in reply Seaton were bowled out for 204 runs in 46 overs. Highlight of their innings was an impressive knock of 84 from No5 Adam Bilston.

Abbotskerswell 20 points; Seaton 4 points.
