Local cricketers could be playing in a new 20-20 midweek tournament next season.

The idea was revealed this week at the annual general meeting on Uplyme and Lyme Regis Cricket Club, one of the most exciting local sides whose talents suit the 20-over format of the sport.

Uplyme chairman Steve Batey is sounding out local cricket clubs to see if they would support the idea and is looking for a potential sponsor.

This season Uplyme won their tier knock-out competition - organised by the Devon Cricket League in a shortened season caused by COVID-10 -  with ease, attracting a crowd of 250 at their play-off final, unheard of in local cricket.

Next season Uplyme hope to install wi-fi at their clubhouse at the King George V playing field and are looking into the possibility of live streaming of matches. They are also hoping to have a new electronic scoreboard.

Another idea being investigated is the possibility of organising an overseas tour next June (COVID-19 permitting) to Portugal or the Netherlands.

Officers elected at the annual meeting were: president – Brian Rattenbury; chairman – Steven Batey; vice-chairman – Gary Rowland; secretary – Derek Wellman; treasurer- Neil Price. Committee members: Mark Brimicombe, Andy Jones. Club captain – Sam Farow; T20 captain – Steve Batey.
