Uplyme & Lyme Regis Cricket Club have been celebrating their success as the shortened season draws to a close.

Following a busy winter preparing the King George V field and making improvements to the clubhouse, cricket – like all sports – was struck by the coronavirus pandemic and it was uncertain whether there would be a 2020 season at all.

When the government finally gave the go ahead for local cricket to start in July, a series of mini leagues were set up across Devon to squeeze matches into just two months.

Uplyme & Lyme Regis immediately sprung into action and took the East E 3 (Tier 5) division by storm. They finished their fixtures undefeated and started attracting record crowds after Tyler Wellman smashed three consecutive centuries.

The club is now heading to the semi-finals of the play-offs where they will meet Feniton in the Tier 5 semi-final on Saturday.

But that hasn't stopped them celebrating their success so far over the past week.

On Sunday the club hosted a social day to mark the end of the season, with members and supporters invited for drinks, a barbecue and fun and games at the King George V playing field, including sports day-style races and an egg catching competition.

And on Tuesday night, Uplyme player Harvey Brimicombe organised another of his 'Allstar' friendlies, calling on team mates and friends – some more accustomed to the football pitch and making their cricketing debut.

After winning against a team from The Talbot Arms, including many of their former teachers from The Woodroffe School, in August, Harvey's Allstars were called up for a rematch and the pub side successfully got their revenge.
